AMERICAN – BRITISH ENGLISH: GRAMMATICAL DIFFERENCES

In British English nouns like government / team / family etc. can have a singular or plural verb:
The team is / are playing well.
These nouns normally take a singular verb in American English:
The team is playing well.
Some expressions take different prepositions in British or American English:
Will you be here at the weekend? (British English)
Will you be here on the weekend? (American English)
If you sit at the back, I’ll sit at the front. (British English)
If you sit in the back, I’ll sit in the front. (American English)
It was different from / to what I’d expected. (British English)
It was different from / than what I’d expected. (American English)
